Brewers, Reed Agree On $500,000

 Posted  by Jim Callis

The Brewers and fifth-round pick Michael Reed have agreed to terms on a $500,000 bonus. That’s more than three times MLB’s $154,800 recommendation for the No. 161 draft slot.

An outfielder from Leander (Texas) HS, Reed drew mixed reports from area scouts this spring. Those who liked him saw him as a prototypical right fielder with intriguing power, speed and arm strength. He has committed to Mississippi, where his father Benton played football before a brief NFL career.

MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy also reported that the Brewers have reached a deal with second-round Jorge Lopez, a Puerto Rico high school righthander. Details of that agreement aren’t yet available.

Milwaukee has yet to sign its two first-round picks, Texas righthander Taylor Jungmann and Georgia Tech lefthander Jed Bradley.
