Juniors Cody Poteet of Christian and Corey Oswalt of Madison will play for the West All-Stars in the Perfect Game All-American Classic presented by Rawlings.
Formerly known as the Aflac All-American Baseball Classic, the country’s premier high school baseball showcase will be played at 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at Petco Park.
Poteet, a pitcher-third baseman who has accepted a scholarship offer to UCLA, pitched sparingly for the Patriots his junior season. However, he led East County with a .509 batting average (55-for-108).
“This is a huge honor, something I’ve wanted to be a part of since I was a little kid,” said Poteet, who said his future is as a pitcher.
Oswalt, a shortstop, batted .541 (33-for-61) with four home runs and 21 RBI for the Warhawks this season. He has accepted a scholarship offer to Oregon.
“To be able to represent San Diego as one of the best high school players in the nation is a great honor,” Oswalt said. “Playing with all these great players will definitely elevate my game.”
The East vs. West event featuring 38 of the nation’s best high school seniors of 2012 will be televised by the CBS Sports Network.
General admission tickets are $5 at the box office and $6 online and will go on sale at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Tickets also will be available at the Petco Park box office, online at
